About the team

Herts Legal provides legal support and advice to Hertfordshire County Council and a range of public and not for profit sector organisations across Hertfordshire. The work includes Commercial; Planning & Environment; Property; Dispute Resolution; Adults, Education and Health; and Childcare Litigation.
We are expanding our trainee cohort and are committed to a ‘grow our own’ approach, developing exceptional lawyers for the future.

About the role

The training contract is a two-year contract. During this time, you will undertake up to 4 seats each lasting 6 months, gaining a wide range of experience across our teams. Our wider client base ensures that you will have the opportunity to gain excellent experience across the sector and also, how to operate as part of an in-house legal team for a large host organisation. You will gain an understanding of good governance and decision making in the local authority setting.

The work is fast paced and complex, you will often be juggling competing deadlines, and no two days look the same. You will need to be enthusiastic, well organised, an effective communicator and possess excellent research skills.

Expect to take on responsibility early with management of your own cases under supervision, as well as supporting our lawyers on complex cases and projects. We will also support you to undertake the necessary professional qualifications required to complete your training to qualify as a solicitor.

About you

Essential:

  • Has completed a Qualifying Law Degree/ Common Professional Exam followed by the Legal Practice Course; or
  • Has completed a degree (in law or another subject) and passed the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority’s SQE1 and SQE2 assessments

Desirable

  • Previous paralegal experience preferred.
