Reporting Line

This role reports to the Legal Director, Head of Department

Job Purpose

A Paralegal in the Private Client Residential Department to provide assistance with matters whilst exercising confidentiality and client care at all times.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Preparation of communications, contracts and documents as instructed by Fee Earner
Processing new matters using case management system
Providing conveyancing quotations
Using the Land Registry portal for all appropriate elements in the conveyancing process
Preparation of contract exchanges and completions in accordance with the Law Society formulae and preparing completion statements.
Drafting and dealing with enquiries raised by sellers lawyers and preparing draft reports for clients.
Carrying out conveyancing searches. Completing and submitting on-line SDLT forms.
Preparing and submitting applications to the Land Registry.
Carrying out general office duties, including filing, faxing, photocopying and e-mailing.
Answering telephone calls efficiently and politely and taking messages, updating solicitors, clients, brokers and estate agents as necessary.
Assisting in general office administration duties, when necessary.
Closing and archiving files when matter is completed. Check nil balance with Accounts and confirming destruction date with fee earner.
Liaising with clients on all aspects of their cases, including meeting with them independently on a face-to-face basis to deal with minor issues.

The above tasks provide a general overview of the types of activity the candidate will be expected to engage in or oversee on a day-to-day basis. Location: Davies and Partners Solicitors, 250 Aztec West, Park Avenue, Almondsbury, Bristol, BS32 4TR
Salary: Competitive
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9:00am 5:30pm with 1-hour unpaid break.

This role meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. This role will require applicants who are offered employment to be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. This will include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings as well as convictions.

Personal Specification

Legal Status:

Appropriate DBS disclosure will be required prior to confirmation of appointment
Right to live and work in the UK e.g. valid UK Passport or appropriate visa/work permits

Education/Qualifications:
Law Degree or equivalent desirable but not essential.

Skills/Knowledge:
Experience working in conveyancing
Experience of completing administrative tasks
Self-organised and proactive
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to maintain client confidentiality
Adaptable to the needs of the business as changes occur during the operational requirements
Competence in the effective use of Information and Communications Technologies (lCT)
The ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Ability to be flexible

You may also have experience in the following: Paralegal, Conveyancing, Legal Assistant, Administrative Support, Administrator, Legal Executive, Legal Secretary, Legal Administrator, Law Graduate, Legal Graduate, etc.
