Job Title: Private Client Paralegal
Salary: £27,000 to £29,000 depending on experience
Duration: Temporary - ongoing
Hours: Monday to Friday, 10am to 5:30pm (37.5 hrs pw), can be flexible.
Location: Birmingham
Role Purpose:
Our client, a busy and well-established Solicitors practice in Birmingham, are looking for an experienced Private Client Paralegal to assist Solicitors and Fee Earners with casework, whilst liaising with clients and third parties. Ideally you will have a minimum of 12 months experience within client probate and estate administration.
Key Duties:
Provide administrative and legal support for private client matters, including probate and estate planning
Preparation of all relevant IHT returns
Maintenance and preparation of estate accounts
Interact with external advisers e.g. accountants and tax advisers and provide relevant information required, case by case
Responsible for the completion of estate administration
Liaise and build relationships with more senior fee earners within the team
Update Probate Registry systems as and when required
Keep updated with Inland Revenue processes and procedures
Manage client files and ensure compliance within legal regulations
- Handle high in value estates that include trust structures e.g. discretionary wills, nil rate band wills and life interest trust wills
Key Skills/Experience Required:
Minimum 12-month experience within a similar role working in client probate and estate administration
Working understanding of will validity and interpretation
Good working understanding of relevant inheritance tax allowances
Able to multitask, meet deadlines, and take ownership of responsibilities
Strong drafting, research, and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and clients
Comfortable using Microsoft Office and competent in using a case management system, preferably LEAP or similar
Ability to remain calm under pressure and work to tight deadlines
Ability to quickly build confidence, respect and trust with others
Professionalism when dealing with clients and sensitive matters with a commitment to confidentiality and discretion
