We are currently recruiting for the following positions:

Housing Paralegal

Salary: £28,000

Closing date: 16 May 2025 5pm

North West London Law Centres is looking for a new paralegal to support our housing team.

This position is ideally suitable for someone seeking experience in legal aid advice. You will be required to interview clients and take initial instructions and check and verify financial eligibility compliance for legal aid.

Your role will include the following, but additional tasks may be added as appropriate for the
role:

  • Work to support fee earners on housing and legal aid cases
  • Interviewing clients, taking and drafting statements and supporting those who are eligible
    for legal aid to evidence their eligibility.
  • Casework to support those facing eviction in Brent and Camden including early advice
    on Notices, defences to eviction and advice on disrepair issues.
  • Monitoring our weekly housing advice line.
  • Handling new client enquiries and deal with reception queries and provide cover when
    required.
  • Undertaking outreach at community spaces in Brent and Camden.
  • Referring those who need more specialist housing advice who are eligible for legal aid to
    our housing team.
  • Produce plain English letters and documents as required.
  • Manage professionally and confidentially, written and telephone correspondence with
    clients, other solicitors and third parties.
  • Maintain client care standards as set out in the Law Centre’s Lexcel office manual.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Organised and able to prioritise and able to work to deadlines
  • Focuses on the details to a realistic level
  • Interested in problem solving and solution focused
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Understanding of the requirements of publicly funded work

The Law Centre may be prepared to offer a training contract to a suitable candidate subject to performance.
