Typically, we recruit two or three trainees a year each September.Our Graduate Programme, via the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) routeWe offer a three-year programme to qualify as a Solicitor:<ul><li>Year 1 – You will work within a Legal Assistant / Paralegal role in one of our teams. You might have the opportunity to work in more than one team, however the team you join, and whether you move teams during year one is dependent on business need at the time of your employment. Six months into your first year, you can apply to progress to our two year Training Programme. If you’re successful, you will work as a Trainee Solicitor in years two and three of your Training Programme.</li><li>Year 2 – You will undertake your first year as a Trainee Solicitor and be placed in two of our different teams in six month intervals (your first and second seat). You will study alongside your work and complete your SQE1 exam towards the end of the year.</li><li>Year 3 – Subject to you passing your SQE1, you will progress into your second year of our Training Programme and gain experience in two more teams, again in six month intervals (your third and fourth seat). Deadline: not stated so apply as soon as possible.Ways to qualify with Elborne Mitchell LLPTo qualify through the traditional route, you will need to have commenced or completed the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) or the Legal Practice Course (LPC) by September 2021. Individuals choosing this route must have obtained a law degree or GDL and have completed the LPC before joining the firm. You will then be eligible to embark on our two-year Training Contract, during which you will also complete the Professional Skills Course.If you have not yet started or completed the GDL or LPC, you can qualify with us by following the Solicitor’s Qualifying Examination (SQE) route. To do so, we require you to have completed either a law degree or the new Postgraduate Diploma in Law, and to have passed both SQE assessments prior to joining the firm. DeadlinesVacation scheme: 31 January 2025Training Contract: 5pm on 30 May 2025Training ContractsWe currently recruit 6 trainee solicitors each year and have 4 vacation placement opportunities.We welcome applications from students who have taken a non-law degree as well as those who have studied law with a strong academic background and at least a 2.1 honours degree.We are proud, in most years, that we have a 100% retention rate.We usually recruit trainees up to two years ahead of the starting date for their training contract, as we recognise that many candidates look for the security of having a training contract in place before committing to their post graduate legal courses. We sometimes recruit within a shorter time period, for example if it is decided that the firm can accommodate extra trainees. We suggest that your application states the year in which you are applying to start a training contract, but if appropriate also states that you could join us earlier.We are currently flexible about whether candidates wish to qualify by studying a legal practice course, studying independently to pass SQE1 and SQE2 or wish to take a graduate apprenticeship whilst working at the Firm. This is flexible and is tailored as far as possible to each individual trainee. The training principal supervises the trainees and they are encouraged to give regular feedback as to training. The firm as a whole operates an open-door policy and trainees and work experience students often comment on our informal, friendly and approachable culture at all levels of the firm.As soon as a trainee joins us they are considered a full member of the firm. Trainees are involved in client matters as fully as possible and are expected to undertake work under supervision assuming increasing responsibility as training progresses. You will work closely with a senior lawyer, so that you will be involved in your supervisor’s work and learn how matters are handled on a day to day basis.All candidates will follow this rotational seat system for a full 24 months, even if they are eligible to apply for admission as solicitors during this period by virtue of previously accumulated qualifying work experience (QWE) and having passed both of the SQE1 &amp; SQE2 assessments.Choice of Law SchoolIf you have studied a non-law degree, and you have not already commenced a GDL or LPC, or an SQE preparation course, we will require you to complete and pass (at the first attempt) the PGDL at The University of Law (at either of their London branches or any of their UK regional centres). Thereafter you will study for the SQE 1 &amp; 2 at The University of Law.Law graduates (and non-law graduates who have already commenced/completed the PGDL) are required to study for the SQE 1 &amp; 2 at The University of Law.In all cases, you must obtain or have obtained a pass (or better) at the first attempt, for both the SQE1 and SQE 2 before or in the year in which your training contract/QWE will start.We will meet the cost of all law school fees (including the cost of taking the SQE assessments) for those who accept a training contract/QWE with us for any law school year they have not commenced before accepting the offer.
